The New York City Mayor was joined by many firemen and policemen outside Manhattan’s Bellevue Hospital as they applauded healthcare staff. More than 700 people have died in New York every day for six days in a row. America has the highest amount of COVID-19 cases in the world with the majority of them located within New York.

Yesterday New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said during a press conference the United States may experience a second wave of coronavirus infections once restrictions are lifted before deciding their exit strategy. 

He said: “How do we know that it is safe to proceed now?

“There is information that some of these places that re-opened took quickly have seen a growth in the number of cases, they are seeing a growth in the infection rate again or they are seeing a second wave.

“So there are troubling signs on the horizon.

“I want to make sure that this time we have learned from the other experiences.

“It is one thing to make a mistake once but this nation should not go through it again.

“Before we make these decisions let them be informed by the experiences we are seeing all across the globe.”

Governor Cuomo added: “There is no doubt that what we are doing now is as important and impactful as anything that has been done.

A total of over 31,000 people have recovered from the virus in the US. 

Worldwide there have been more than 1,800,000 COVID-19 cases at the time of writing. 

The death toll has reached more than 113,000 at the time of writing.

More than 421,000 people have recovered from the coronavirus across the globe.
