The storm, known locally as Tisoy, entered Philippine territory Saturday evening.

Officials have warned Kammuri may be the equivalent of a major hurricane when it makes landfall in Northern Luzon, where the nation’s capital of Manila is located.

Manila is a densely populated bayside city on the island and according to numbers from 2015, the city is home to approximately 1.8 million.

Typhoon Kammuri is currently tracking toward the west, a motion expected to continue as it makes landfall in the Philippines.
