Woodward lowers Pogba asking price

Manchester United chief Ed Woodward has lowered his asking price for Paul Pogba ahead of the summer transfer window.

The France international has been tipped to quit Old Trafford at the end of the season.

And according to Italian outlet Tuttosport, United are ready to cash in on Pogba this summer.

United executive vice-chairman Woodward has lowered his asking price for Pogba from £150m to £100m due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Red Devils know clubs will not be paying huge transfer fees this summer after the deadly virus halted world football.

Tuttosport add that Juventus, Real Madrid, PSG and Inter Milan are eyeing Pogba ahead of the summer window.

Roberto Firmino to Barcelona backed

Barcelona should move to sign Roberto Firmino as opposed to Lautaro Martinez, in the view of former striker Bojan.

“Inter Milan do not usually take the initiative and that makes me think that Lautaro could occupy an area at Barca that is not naturally his,” Bojan said.

“[That is] something that would certainly be a shame.

“If you allow me a name, I would bet more on Roberto Firmino: a link player, with a lot of presence and great mobility.

“I do not intend that this reflection be interpreted as a refusal to sign Martinez, but I understand that his profile must be analysed very well because it would be unforgivable that, as happened with Antoine Griezmann, we sign a striker to put him on the wing and then complain that it doesn’t work.

“That cannot happen again because, although it seems obvious, a nine is a nine.

“That is his natural habitat and to move him from there is to waste his talent. If Barca need a nine, sign him, but do it to really use him.”

Paul Pogba tipped to stay at Man Utd

Gary Neville has backed Paul Pogba to stay at Manchester United despite interest from Real Madrid and Juventus.

The Old Trafford hero reckons United’s recent signings will convince Pogba to stay.

“The direction all season of Pogba’s career was always facing away from Manchester in the sense that there was so much speculation and his agent was coming out all the time,” he said.

“And now with what’s happened, coronavirus and the economic reset in football, what clubs are going to be able to buy Paul Pogba for the reputed £80m, £100m fees that were being thrown around?

“Which clubs are going to be paying the huge wages he’s on at Manchester United?

“I’m not diminishing him as a player, I’m just talking about the economic situation the whole world finds itself in.

“Paul Pogba may have to, and may want to, sit at Manchester United for the next 12 to 18 months, and look at the fact he’s at a club he can play with Bruno Fernandes, Fred, (Scott) McTominay, Maguire, Wan-Bissaka, De Gea, Rashford, Greenwood.”

Man Utd transfer target learning English

Manchester United and Chelsea transfer target Federico Chiesa is reportedly learning English in preparation for a potential move to the Premier League.

Fiorentina director general Joe Barone recently revealed that a number of clubs are monitoring La Viola’s star winger and the latest development suggests a transfer could be on the horizon.

Seven goals and five assists in all competitions this term has put the winger on the radar of several European clubs, with United and Chelsea thought to be leading the chase.

And the Daily Mail report that Chiesa is taking English lessons in order to avoid being caught unprepared in the instance of a move to the UK.

Liverpool lead Koulibaly transfer race

Liverpool lead the race to sign Kalidou Koulibaly this summer after Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United both pulled out of the running, French outlet Le10 Sport claim.

They say PSG will instead prioritise signing Thiago Silva to a new contract instead.

Koulibaly is one of the most valuable defenders in the world, with Napoli previously demanding £88million (€100m) for the centre-back.

However, with United and PSG pulling out of the race to sign Koulibaly, Liverpool are in pole position to land the Senegal international.

They add that Newcastle are also interested, with the Toon ready to make a mammoth offer this summer.

Chelsea talks

Chelsea have opened talks with Leicester over a deal for Ben Chilwell in the summer transfer window.

The England international has also supposedly told his agent that he desires a move to London.

Chelsea are keen to bolster their defensive options this summer as part of a wider overhaul with manager Frank Lampard looking to stamp his mark on the squad.

Chilwell has long been recognised as Chelsea’s priority target on the left side of defence and the Blues are now said to be in talks over a move for the Leicester star.

Spanish outlet Todofichajes claim Chelsea have entered negotiations with the Foxes and are leading a gaggle of top European clubs – including Manchester City, Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain – in monitoring the 23-year-old.

The report goes on to state that Chilwell has told his agent he would like to continue his Premier League career in London, making a Stamford Bridge switch all the more attractive.

However, Chilwell is highly rated by Leicester and is believed to carry a price tag similar to the £80million fee Manchester United paid for Harry Maguire last summer.

Arsenal swap deal

Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is one of several transfer targets for Inter Milan this summer, with the Nerazzurri ready to included Mauro Icardi in a swap deal.

Aubameyang will enter the final 12 months of his contract in the summer and Arsenal could lose him on a free if they don’t sell him this summer.

The Gabon international’s position is being monitored by several top clubs across Europe, however, Inter Milan could tempt Arsenal with their offer.

According to Italian publication Tuttosport, Inter are ready to offer striker Mauro Icardi in a swap deal for Aubameyang.

The report claims Inter chief Giuseppe Marotta is prepared to sanction the offer if Icardi returns to the San Siro at the end of the season.

The 27-year-old is currently on a season-long loan spell at Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG do have the option to make the move permanent if they are willing to pay £61million (€70m), however, there are doubts if they are willing to do so in the current market.
