Timo Werner posted a photo of himself preparing for the Bundesliga’s return this weekend on Twitter which has sparked a transfer frenzy among Liverpool fans who are hoping to see the German at Anfield next year.

Liverpool were considering activating the striker’s £52million release clause before the coronavirus disrupted their plans.

It is unclear how Jurgen Klopp’s transfer budget will be affected when the Premier League returns so there has been no progress on that front.

But fans can still dream that Werner will move to Anfield this summer and they let him know on social media.

The 24-year-old is set to lead the line for RB Leipzig against Schalke on Saturday and Liverpool supporters will be watching with added interest.

“Ready to go!” Werner wrote. “Back to Bundesliga on Saturday!”

One Liverpool fan said: “You better enjoy your last few games in Germany before linking up with the boys at Melwood.”

And another added: “Bag the golden boot then come to us and bag it again.”

A third user commented: “I’m a Leipzig fan this weekend – want to see our new striker.”

In the photo Werner posted he was wearing a red Leipzig jacket which also got Liverpool fans excited.

“There’s people like Werner who has been linked with a move to the Premier League and Liverpool, but I do not know if he is ready for that step up yet,” he said.

“He’s young, he’s quick, he’s got an eye for goal, he has played for his country.

“It would be great if Liverpool could acquire him just to strengthen the squad, he is only going to get better.

“Has he got the quality to usurp the front three, probably not yet. But he is certainly one for the future.”
