Texas shooting: Gunman opens fire on ‘multiple police officers’ | World | News

The suspect is said to have barricaded himself in a house after the shooting in Cedar Park, just 20 miles outside of Austin, Texas. People are being urged to avoid the Bagdad Road area.

Police said: “We are on scene of a shooting where multiple Cedar Park Police Officers have been shot while responding to a call at a home off Natalie Cove.

“Subject is barricaded inside the home and multiple law enforcement agencies are on scene.”

At least three ambulances and multiple SWAT units were dispatched to the scene, according to Fox News reports.

Speaking to Fow News, Caleb Record said he first thought the emergency services were responding to a coronavirus case or a heart attack, due to the magnitude of the response.

He said: “About three, four, five cop cars come by; SWAT comes by; everyone’s just zooming on by.

“So I turn around and try to see what’s going on.”

Multiple gunshots were heard and there is a large law enforcement presence, witnesses told KVUE.

Residents are being urged to stay indoors.

On Twitter, Cedar Park Police wrote: “This is a fluid situation and we will keep you all updated as new information comes in.”

Police confirmed three officers were shot in the incident and were rushed to a hospital nearby.

A tweet published by the police force read: “They are at a local hospital in stable condition.

This remains a very active scene, the subject is not in custody at this time.”

It also strongly encouraged local residents to stay at home while they continued to investigate.

It added: “For your safety – If you live in this neighborhood, please stay inside your home.”
