Rangers suffered a 1-0 defeat in Sunday’s Scottish League Cup final as Celtic added yet another trophy to their ever-growing collection. Christopher Jullien’s close-range strike proved enough to separate the Old Firm rivals at Hampden Park.

Rangers will have to go back to the drawing board as they seek to win a first top-level trophy since their demotion to the third division in 2012.

Steven Gerrard’s side wasted a glut of chances and paid the price in the second half when Jullien fired home having looked to be offside when the free-kick was taken.

Alfredo Morelos had an afternoon to forget as his goal drought against Celtic continued – thanks in part to some inspired goalkeeping by Fraser Forster.

Express Sport is here to run the rule over the Rangers players following the defeat to Celtic – but do you agree?

Rangers player ratings vs Celtic

Allan McGregor – 6

Made saves when called upon and had no chance with Jullien’s goal.

James Tavernier – 5

The Rangers skipper has been below par of late and once again failed to shine.

Connor Goldson – 6

Not at his best and spaces opened up between him and Filip Helander as the game wore on.

Filip Helander – 6

Mirrored his centre-back partner’s performance before going off through injury.

Borna Barisic – 6

Made his mark going forward in the first half but faded after the break.

Glen Kamara – 5

Gerrard needed more from the Finland international in the midfield engine room.

Joe Aribo – 5

Struggled like Kamara and, similarly, was hooked as Rangers chased the game.

Ryan Jack – 5

Looked certain to go off after a nasty fall and wasn’t able to fulfil his potential afterwards.

Scott Arfield – 6

Plenty of fight but not enough cutting edge from the former Burnley man.

Alfredo Morelos – 4

Wasted a series of guilt edge chances and missed a penalty to boot.

Ryan Kent – 4

Must do better if he’s to justify the fee which took him back to Ibrox on a permanent basis.

Rangers substitutes

Jermain Defoe – 5

Lively but missed a crucial chance late on.

Brandon Barker – 5

Little impact after replacing Aribo.

Nikola Katic – 6

Replaced the injured Helander and did his job.
