The Pussycat Dolls may have delighted fans with their comeback on The X Factor – but some viewers weren’t so happy about the raunchy performance.
Ofcom has received 419 complaints about the girl band’s first reunion show, which saw X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger reunited with Carmit Bachar, Kimberly Wyatt, Ashley Roberts and Jessica Sutta to perform a medley of hits on Saturday night.
But their risque dance moves and skimpy outfits – which included PVC and bodystockings – sparked a backlash.
An Ofcom spokesperson told Sky News: “We are assessing the complaints against our broadcasting rules, but are yet to decide whether or not to investigate.”
Several viewers anticipated the furore, posting about the performance on social media.
One tweeted: “It makes me uncomfortable to see 5 grown women dancing half naked on my screen.”
Another said: “Ofcom are gonna get a hammering about PCD aren’t they?”
The Pussycat Dolls have reformed nine years after splitting in 2010 amid reports of resentment over Scherzinger’s leading role.
Their X Factor performance included a medley of hits – including Don’t Cha and Buttons – as well as their new song, React.
Saturday’s show was the final of X Factor: Celebrity, which saw reality TV star Megan McKenna crowned the winner ahead of The Chase quizzer Jenny Ryan, girl band V5 and identical twins Max and Harvey.
After her name was called out, McKenna told host Dermot O’Leary: “Thank you so much for everybody that voted for me, I’m living my dream and I can’t even explain how excited I am.”
The 27-year-old has won a recording contract.
Speaking to Sky News ahead of the first episode of the first celebrity series of the show, McKenna told Sky News that winning was her dream.
She said: “I’ve watched the show growing up my entire life so to be able to sing in front of the judges was honestly one of the best moments of my life.
“It means so much to me, to go to judges’ houses. I kept having to pinch myself, like, I can’t believe this; I’m standing in Simon Cowell’s house, this is crazy.”
