And here come the champions of champions…

The Bayern Munich players are now shaking hands and having their medals placed around their necks.

Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge looks pleased as punch as captain Manuel Neuer clasps the trophy…. And lifts it to the sky! “Championes, Championes, Ole! Ole! Ole!” sing the players as the fireworks are set off in Lisbon.

Treble completed.

Medals

One of the worst walks in football… presumably. The PSG players are receiving their runners up medals with Neymar still stood in floods of tears. He gets a big hug from Thomas Tuchel before trudging away.

Start of an era…

I remember Liverpool beating Bayern Munich in last year’s competition and everyone thought it would be a good few years before Bayern Munich were challenging at European level again. I was wrong. They are one of the most exiting attacking sides in world football AND have Leroy Sane joining their ranks. Terrifying.

PSG 0-1 BAYERN

FT: BAYERN MUNICH HAVE WON THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE! Hansi Flick’s side have been devastating throughout the competition and deserved their win on the night. Neymar and Kylian Mbappe both had chances to get PSG over the line but failed to deliver.

Kylian Mbappe is crestfallen, Neymar is in tears and the Bayern players are running around the field as the music blares around the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon.

94: PSG need to get Sheringham and Solskjaer on…

92: Robert Lewandowski goes down inside the penalty area under a challenge from Thilo Kehrer but referee waves play away. PSG fly up the other end of the field where Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is inches from turning in Neymar’s flicked cross. Not quite sure what the former Stoke man was trying to do there – just fling yourself at it!

90: Pffft. Heart in mouth moment for Bayern as Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting prods the ball through to Kylian Mbappe, whose effort is blocked by Manuel ‘The Wall’ Neuer. It was offside but the ‘keeper didn’t know that. FIVE MINUTES OF ADDED TIME!

88: PSG were 1-0 down against Atalanta at this stage too. They just need Bayern to use all their subs and then suffer an injury that reduces them to 10 men…

86: Corentin Tolisso on for Thiago Alcantara. Could be Thiago’s last appearance for Bayern if reports of the midfielder joining Liverpool are believed. One hell of a player, that’s for sure.

85: We have just FIVE minutes remaining in the Champions League final. Bayern, as we speak, are holding PSG at arm’s length with Kylian Mbappe and Neymar both being nullified.

82: Booked! Well this was only a matter of time. Neymar is getting upset and decides to swipe out at Robert Lewandowski over on the touchline. These PSG players are getting more and more frustrated as we enter the final 10 minutes. Marquinhos booked too.

79: Changes for PSG. I can’t believe I’m saying this but former Stoke player Maxim Choupo-Moting replaces Angel Di Maria. Layvin Kurzawa on for Juan Bernat. Time to shine, Maxim.

76: Penalty appeal… denied! Neymar springs Kylian Mbappe free. The Frenchman looks to go himself and falls down under a challenge from Joshua Kimmich. Nothing given and VAR doesn’t check it but it really does look like Kimmich kicked Mbappe’s heel. Neymar then fires a devilish effort towards goal that swerves and bends over.

73: Julian Draxler replaces Ander Herrera for the closing stages. Feel that might be a mistake but go and watch him score the equaliser…

70: Final 20 minutes at the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon. Bayern Munich hold the advantage and are looking a yard quicker all over the pitch. Saying that, Manuel Neuer has JUST made a cracking stop to deny Marquinhos at the near post.

68: PSG right-back Thilo Kehrer is feeling it now. Kingsley Coman is laying it on thick now and he’s struggling to keep up. Hansi Flick makes a double change with Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Perisic on for the goal scorer Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry.

Thilo Kehrer may just be delighted with that.

65: Marco Verratti on for Leandro Paredes.

63: PSG on the ropes! Bayern Munich have let off the handbrake now and are looking for the kill. Kingsley Coman makes another run to the far post, picks up the floated ball by Thomas Muller and Thiago Silva has to come across to block the volley.

60: Bayern Munich have scored their 500th UEFA Champions League goal becoming just the third side to reach this tally in the competition after Barcelona (517) and Real Madrid (567).

PSG 0-1 BAYERN | COMAN

59: GOAL! We have lift-off in the Champions League final! Hansi Flick made ONE change to his starting XI tonight – and it’s paid dividends!

Joshua Kimmich has time and space over on the right channel. He looks up and places the ball on the head of the unmarked Kingsley Coman, who heads in against his former club. Could this set fire to the tie? Fingers crossed.

58: Substitute Niklas Sule ploughs through the back of Kylian Mbappe, who was looking to spin on the halfway line. He’s booked and Neymar is given a stern warning for trying to referee the game himself.

56: Kylian Mbappe has switched to the right to try his luck against the yellow-carded Alphonso Davies. We might just get the foot-race everyone wants to see.

54: Here’s what we wanted! Tempers are flared, folks. Serge Gnabry has not one but TWO nibbles on Neymar and receives a booking for his troubles. All the other players decide to join in and have a scuffle in the middle of the field. Leandro Paredes also gets a yellow card for his involvement.

Barely anything in the initial challenge by the way. Storm in a teacup.

51: Kingsley Coman is looking Bayern’s best outlet. He’s usually free down that left channel and has the better of Thilo Kehrer. His latest cross is aimed for Robert Lewandowski but Thiago Silva arrives to hack it away. That’s the Chelsea-linked Thiago Silva, who will be leaving PSG whatever happens tonight.

48: Kylian Mbappe wants a penalty when Thomas Muller had the audacity to breathe on the Frenchman. Referee Daniele Orsato isn’t having any of it.

PSG 0-0 BAYERN

45: PEEP! And we’re back underway in the 2019-20 Champions League final. No changes for either side but I’m expecting BIG changes in terms of the openness of the game. One goal and this one goes berserk.

PSG 0-0 BAYERN

HT: Slow burner caught fire in the final five minutes of the half. And I believe that is the first time since the restart that Bayern Munich have failed to score in the first half of a game.

45: Chance! Biggest chance of the half goes to waste! Goodness me. David Alaba gifts the ball to Kylian Mbappe inside his own penalty area on the stroke of half time. The Frenchman plays a neat one-two with Ander Herrera but tamely fires straight at Manuel Neuer from no more than eight yards out. Should have been the breakthrough.

44: Bayern ending the half as the stronger side. Probing from left to right down the channels, looking for an opportunity to put the ball into Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski. PSG defence holding firm.

41: Superb defending from Juan Bernat, who gets up and blocks a header from Robert Lewandowski at the far post. Marquinhos then reads a rapid break down the right from the Poland international and intercepts a dangerous cross into the box.

38: Not been a goalless draw in the Champions League final for 17 years. Kingsley Coman lifts a teasing ball into the box from the left but nobody anticipates it. Marquinhos then heads a Joshua Kimmich free-kick away. Good defending.

35: Just ten minutes of the first half remaining. Come on, where’s the breakthrough. Surprisingly cagey this one.

33: Oh my… that was close. Thomas Muller flicks a cross into Robert Lewandowski, who does very well to improvise with a stooping header that Keylor Navas parries. Just seeing the replay and Presnel Kimpembe’s slight deflection took it away from Lewa and prevented a certain goal.

30: Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Angel Di Maria are all working extremely hard up front. Not just show ponies these lads. In fact their hard work has led to teenager Alphonso Davies being forced into rugby tackling Leandro Paredes. Booked.

Close! Ander Herrera arrives to blast a half-clearance towards goal. It looks to be heading in but it’s blocked by Leon Goretzka and the referee gives a goal kick.

27: Early change for Bayern Munich, Niklas Sule replaces the injured Jerome Boateng. He was a risk in fairness.

24: Lovely move. Scintillating stuff. Kylian Mbappe and Neymar combined on the break and they power to the Bayern penalty area. Ander Herrera plays a delicious reverse pass into Angel Di Maria and the winger blazes over the crossbar.

21: Woodwork! Well you knew Robert Lewandowski wouldn’t be kept quiet for long. Alphonso Davies plays the ball into the penalty area for the Poland international, who swivels and fires one against the post. PSG goalkeeper Keylor Navas was beaten all ends up.

19: PSG manager Thomas Tuchel sitting anxiously on a Cool Box on the touchline and he’s just had kittens watching this chance!

Kylian Mbappe slips Neymar through on the left side of the penalty area. He’s nudged it ahead of Jerome Boateng before rifling a low shot that Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer palms away. Cracking stop.

16: Block! Juan Bernat manages to flick a cross into the penalty area for Kylian Mbappe, but his snapshot is blocked by Leon Goretzka. The French superstar is found unmarked a few moments later. He’s got options but can’t fool Joshua Kimmich, who reads it and makes a block of his own.

13: Feels like the calm before the storm here. One goal and I think all hell will break loose.

10: Bayern Munich haven’t lost since December 7, 2019! Won 28 of their last 29 matches. And their confidence is certainly showing. They are setting the pace and tempo in the opening 10 minutes at the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon.

Angel di Maria whips a free-kick into the penalty area but Alphonso Davies does well to flick it away.

8: First effort of the match goes to Thiago Alcantara, who leathers it into orbit before receiving a telling off from Robert Lewandowski. Been strongly tipped to join Liverpool this summer has the Bayern Munich midfielder.

5: 294 goals scored between these sides this season. 294! If we get a goalless draw tonight then I’m going to sue the pair of ’em. PSG have made one or two mistakes in their own territory but none have led to an opportunity for the Bavarians.

3: Certainly the loudest empty stadium I’ve heard… perhaps a few friends and families have managed to get in.

In more important news, everyone on the pitch is buzzing. Bayern Munich are showing their intent straight away by pressing ridiculously high. Clearly no plans for Hansi Flick’ side to drop deeper to deal with the pace of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.

PSG 0-0 BAYERN

1: PEEP! We’re underway in the Champions League final, folks. So many different storylines running through this one. Kylian Mbappe could have the World Cup and Champions League in the bag at the age of 21… Robert Lewandowski could win his first ever European medal… Is the trophy heading to Paris or Munich? We’re about to find out!

Good to see the assistant referee singing the Champions League anthem before kick off. Wonderful commitment.

Twitter round-up

Karl: Close call on who will win tonight Kylian Mbappe vs Joshua Kimmich will be a good contest, would rather see Mbappe vs Alphonso Davies though who’d win in a race.

Olayinka: Promises to be a fascinating match with attacks on top; PSG’s incredible individual talent against Bayern’s collective brilliance. Both teams have the ability to beat anyone on their day but Bayern’s big-match experience should be enough to swing the game in their favour.

Noel: I think it can’t not be a fantastic game!!! Both teams have intensity, pace and power. I say 3-1 Bayern but could go either way. In any event, it’ll be a welcome parting gift for all footie fans, given the season we’ve had!

Makes a change…

The boffins at Bet O’Clock analysed each of the Champions League finals to find just how accurate the competition’s name really is. Turns out… not very.

This is the first final since 2004 to include two teams that actually qualified for the tournament as domestic champions.

Since the European Cup rebranded to the Champions League in 1992, just six previous finals have included two sides that entered the competition by winning their respective leagues, and this is the first since Porto faced Monaco in Gelsenkirchen sixteen seasons ago.

Champions League finals to include two sides that qualified as domestic league champions:

1992/93: Marseille vs AC Milan, 1993/94: AC Milan vs Barcelona, 1994/95: Ajax vs AC Milan, 1995/96: Juventus vs Ajax, 1997/98: Real Madrid vs Juventus, 2003/04: Porto vs Monaco, 2019/20: Bayern Munich vs PSG

The route to glory

So how did Bayern Munich get here?

The short answer is that they battered and bruised pretty much all in their path. They scored 42 goals in 10 games. Yep… really.

They’ve beaten Tottenham, Chelsea and Barcelona 22-5 on aggregate. Lyon were their victims in the semi-final.

It was a bit more straightforward for Paris Saint-Germain. A little more… generous if you like.

They beat Galatasaray, Club Bruges and Real Madrid in the group stages before knocking out Borussia Dortmund, Atalanta and most recently RB Leipzig.

Game over…

No point playing this tonight, lads. Sportradar, a global provider of sports content and intelligence, has already done it. So… goodnight.

Tonight’s PSG vs Bayern Munich Champions League final was played out via Sportradar’s AI-driven Simulated Reality product this afternoon and it was great news for… the Germans.

Bayern Munich won a thrilling match that finished 4-4 after extra-time in a tense penalty shootout and were crowned champions of Europe for the sixth time.

I must stress that you should NOT throw a quid at that happening…

Team news…

Snap! Both managers make a single change from their semi-final successes. PSG goalkeeper Keylor Navas has recovered from a hamstring injury and is drafted in to replace Sergio Rico.

Bayern make their first change since the competition resumed with Kingsley Coman taking the place of Ivan Perisic on the left wing.

Aside from that, all the big hitters are present and correct. Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Robert Lewandowski all starting.

Up for it?

They certainly are in Paris. I’ve just had a quick watch of the video below and the PSG supporters aren’t sitting quietly on the sofa. Flares, chanting and even the odd fella climbing a lamppost. Scenes.

I’m sure they are doing more than drinking steins wearing lederhosen in Munich but I’ve yet to source a video.

Evening…

Hello everyone and welcome to our LIVE coverage of Paris Saint-Germain vs Bayern Munich from Estadio da Luz in Lisbon.

We’ve made it, folks. Give yourselves a pat on the back. The competition, which started in June 2019, finally reaches a climax.

In the blue corner – established in 1970 and weighing in with ZERO European Cup titles – Paris Saint-Germain.

Will the in-form and ruthless German heavyweights deliver a knockout blow or can PSG, in true Alexander Povetkin style, land a glorious left upper-cut to secure an upset of sorts.

PSG vs BAYERN | TEAM NEWS

Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick is unsure whether defender Jerome Boateng will be available for tonight’s Champions League final.

The 31-year-old will undergo a late fitness test having been withdrawn during the semi-final victory over Lyon.

Defender Benjamin Pavard, 24, will also be assessed.

“I talked to him this morning and he is going to be part of the final practice session,” said Flick.

“I’m pleased that Benjamin has managed to be with us and I’m sure that he’s 100 per cent fit. However, Saturday will be another test and after that, I’ll consider the options with my team.”

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas is likely to start between the sticks having missed game against RB Leipzig.
