Norwich goalkeeper Tim Krul says he told Mesut Ozil that Arsenal were ‘lucky’ after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored his retaken penalty at Carrow Road. After Arsenal dominated the opening exchanges, Teemu Pukki put Norwich in front when his deflected shot beat Bernd Leno. But Arsenal was given a way into the match when in the 29th minute when Christoph Zimmermann handled Ozil’s cross.
Krul saved Aubameyang’s tame penalty but due to encroachment of several players, VAR called for the penalty to be retaken.
And at the second attempt, Aubameyang got it right as he fired the ball into the corner.
As the Arsenal players celebrated Krul could be seen squaring up to Ozil and their pair exchanged words.
After the match, Krul was asked what he said and replied: “I said ’you are lucky’ because the referee helped them a lot there.”
Todd Cantrell put Norwich ahead again in the second minute of first-half stoppage time with a fine finish.
However, Arsenal got level again when Aubameyang curled home, following Ozil’s corner, for his 10th league strike this season.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Norwich boss Daniel Farke praised his players for their display.
He said: ”It was a great performance – we delivered what we wanted to do.
“I’m disappointed to some extent – we should have got three points. “Some of that was due to a world class Bernd Leno. Four points from two games is quite good.
“Four points out of two games is quite good. It was possible to get six from two but we take a lot of encouragement.”
Cantwell added: “We had chances to get something more but we’ll take a point.
“It’s something I’ve been working on a lot – to get composure to take the chances you get in this team.”
