Neymar was shown red alongside four others as PSG vs Marseille ended in ugly scenes. In a game that threatened to boil over from minute one, it was the visitors who frustrated the Champions League runners up from the get-go after taking the lead through former Newcastle attacker Florian Thauvin. What followed can only be described as carnage.

Marseille thought they had made it 2-0 through Dario Benedetto but the linesman’s flag saved the day for PSG. They also had a goal ruled out through Angel Di Maria.

As former Chelsea and Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas’ side ran down the clock, the hosts couldn’t help but lose their cool.

Neymar was involved in a constant spat with Alvaro Gonzalez all evening. The Spaniard was antagonising the Brazilian superstar at every given opportunity and Neymar was prepared to get involved in several altercations.

The pair then came head-to-head in stoppage time before Neymar clipped him round the back of the head.

He dished out four red cards before going over to his monitor to check to see if he’d missed anything.

It wasn’t long before he was walking back over to Neymar to show him a straight red card.

Neymar then confronted the fourth official before leaving the field, where he accused Gonzalez of alleged racism.

PSG have now lost thier opening two Ligue 1 games following last week’s defeat at Lens.

Match-winner Thauvin said after the game: “A lot of children were watching tonight, we all have to be examples.”

Le Classique remains an iconic fixture in French football and tensions between the two clubs were increased after PSG were beaten 1-0 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League final.

To date, Marseille remain the only French club to have won the European Cup and their fans partied in the streets of the city after Neymar and co were beaten in Lisbon last month.

Neymar is set to follow up his complaints of alleged racism and it appears he tried to report an incident in the first half of 36 minutes.

For now, Marseille were keen to enjoy the moment and their first win at the Parc des Princes since 2010.

Their players includuing Amavi, who was sent off, were videod celebrating loudly and dancing in the changing room as the left-back went live on Periscope.
