Jadon Sancho will be staying at Borussia Dortmund, CEO Michael Zorc has claimed. However, while the German giants have chosen to make that information public, Manchester United shouldn’t be worried. And that’s because the Bundesliga outfit said the exact same about Ousmane Dembele shortly before his move from the club to Barcelona back in 2017.

Manchester United have been unable to sign Sancho so far, with Borussia Dortmund holding their own in transfer negotiations.

And, on Tuesday, Zorc insisted the 20-year-old wouldn’t be leaving the Westfalenstadion and would instead be staying put at the current time.

“We plan on having Jadon Sancho in our team this season, the decision is final,” Zorc said.

”I think that answers all our questions.

“Last summer we adjusted Jadon’s salary to match the development of his performances. So in context, we had already extended his contract until 2023 back then.”

Those comments have suggested that United will now have to look at alternatives.

“You always get the feeling he can do something special, make the difference. He can decide games by himself, even those games he’s not really involved in.”

Just days later, Dembele joined Barcelona in a huge £135million transfer that made him the second most-expensive signing of all time.

And United are unlikely to be deterred from going after Sancho, with Solskjaer determined to bring the forward to Old Trafford this summer.

The Norwegian thinks the 20-year-old ticks all the boxes for his squad as he looks to win the Premier League title next term.

And United legend Andy Cole recently endorsed his old side’s pursuit of Sancho, saying: “You’re always looking to bring in players.

“There’s talk of Jadon Sancho coming in. Would he give Manchester United something different? Of course he would.

“I’m not going to sit here and say, “Oh no, he’s not good enough!” because of course he’s good enough.

“He’s got pace, he’s got the ability to go past players, score goals and create.

“I think ultimately all those kind of things are going to be down to financial issues coming out of COVID-19 – financially, it’s hit every football club.

“But Manchester United will undoubtedly look to strengthen and look to add to what they have.”
