The disatater happened in Jiashi County of north west China’s autonomus Xinjiang.
It was reported to have had a depth of 165m.
The quake reportedly struck about 100 kilometres (62 miles) east of Kashi, China.
There have been no immediate reports of casualties or damage caused by the earthquake.
This is the third felt earthquake in Southern Xinjiang, China in the last 47 hours.
Some residents took to social media to share their fears over the tremors.
One person posted on Twitter: “Every hour the ground is shaking and we are not confident to go to sleep because.”
Another added: “Did anyone else feel the earthquake?”
The Xinjiang region has a population of abour 22million people.
China is located in a seismically active zone and regularly suffers from powerful earthquakes.
Sichuan province was hit by an 8.0-magnitude earthquake on 12 March 2008 that killed around 70,000 people.
The world’s deadliest earthquake hit the central and eastern parts of China in 1556, leaving about 830,000 people dead.
