CHELSEA 3-0 WATFORD

FT: Clinical. Chelsea bossed Watford from start to finish to reclaim fourth position from Manchester United.

CHELSEA 3-0 WATFORD | BARKLEY

91: GOAL! Ross Barkley puts the icing on the cake for Chelsea. The midfielder scores his first Premier League goal in 20 months when crashing Cesar Azpilicueta’s cross into the roof of the net. Smart finish.

90: Roberto Pereyra gifts the ball to Cesar Azpilicueta, who quickly finds Christian Pulisic. Craig Dawson gets back to cover.

Danny Welbeck does really well down the left and tries an effort from a tight angle that just evades the sliding Will Hughes.

89: Oh… that should have been the third. Reece James whips the best cross of the evening deep to Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who actually misreads the flight of the ball and arrives too early to head the ball over the crossbar.

86: Roberto Pereyra replaces Ismaila Sarr.

Penalty appeal! Christian Pulisic dribbles his way into the box and goes down under a challenge from two defenders. VAR has a quick look and says NO penalty.

83: Should be 2-1. Really should be. Nathaniel Chalobah steals the ball off Billy Gilmour in the middle of the park and finds Danny Welbeck. The forward slides one towards the far post but Kepa Arrizabalaga gets down well to deny him.

80: Huh.. just realised Frank Lampard opted for Billy Gilmour over Jorginho. The Italian doesn’t look thrilled with that decision.

Watford try to take a free-kick quickly but the referee isn’t having it. The re-take is taken by Adam Masina, who drills it low for Kepa Arrizabalaga to gather.

78: Triple change for Frank Lampard’s side. Tammy Abraham, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Callum Hudson-Odoi replace Olivier Giroud, Mason Mount and Willian.

Oh, and 30 seconds later N’Golo Kante is forced off with injury. Could just be cramp or fatigue but I’m not sure. Billy Gilmour on. The teenager will be wanting to bounce back from his loose display against Leicester in the FA Cup.

75: Masina tries his luck from distance but it’s not troubling Kepa Arrizabalaga. Like the ambition though AND it counts as a shot on target. Their first of the match. After 75 minutes.

Craig Dawson then gets on the end of Will Hughes’ floated free-kick, however his header is just over the bar.

73: Chance! We’ve not seen enough of this from Ismaila Sarr this evening. The winger powers down the right and pings a dangerous cross into the six-yard box that Andreas Christensen does well to intercept.

70: Willian cuts inside, beats his marker, steadies himself… that sentence usually results in a goal but Ben Foster does exceptionally well to turn away a curling effort from the Brazilian.

Kurt Zouma sends the resulting corner straight at the goalkeeper. Drinks break.

66: Adam Masina and Tom Cleverley replace Kiko Femenia and Troy Deeney.

65: Is Nigel Pearson worried about goal difference? Look I’m not being funny but Watford have almost everyone behind the ball defending. Damage limitations I thought.

And maybe I’m right. Watford as we speak are on -22 while Aston Vill are on -24, West Ham -18 and Bournemouth -27.

63: Ben Foster to the rescue. Willian finishes a signature, mazy run forward by slipping it through to Olivier Giroud. The Frenchman looks to lift it over the Watford goalkeeper but it’s clobbered away to safety.

60: Etienne Capoue is finally hooked. Nigel Person gives him a thoroughly undeserved hug as Danny Welbeck replaces him for the final 30 minutes.

57: Lovely approach play from Christian Pulisic and Mason Mount – they’ve been electric this evening. The pair exchange passes down the left channel and force Craig Dawson into some last-ditch defending at the near post.

54: This really will be a long 45 minutes for Nigel Pearson’s side if things don’t change. Chelsea have simply been quicker, sharper and more clinical. Troy Deeney really isn’t getting any change out of Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma.

51: Booked! Adrian Mariappa for a collision with Christian Pulisic. I actually have some sympathy with him there – not worthy of a yellow card in my opinion.

48: Well I spent most of the half-time break trying to think of excuses for Etienne Capoue. I couldn’t think of any. So bad. So, so bad. Anyway, Christian Pulisic clearly wants to celebrate Independence Day with a goal, but can’t find the net with a rising long-ranger.

CHELSEA 2-0 WATFORD

45: Aaaaaand we’re back underway folks. Nice changes for either side.

CHELSEA 2-0 WATFORD

HT: Well look… surely this game is over. If I were Etienne Capoue I would run through that Stamford Bridge car park and just keep on going. Nigel Pearson looked absolutely disgusted with his challenge on Christian Pulisic. He was on a yellow card too!

Looking good for Frank Lampard’s side.

CHELSEA 2-0 WATFORD | WILLIAN

43: GOAL! Willians steps up… converted. Third goal in two games for the Brazilian. Give the man a new deal!

41: Penalty to Chelsea! That, my friends, is quite hysterically bad defending from Etienne Capoue. No idea what he was thinking. The midfielder clothesline’s Christian Pulisic inside the area and the spot-kick is awarded.

39: Christian Kabasele gives Olivier Giroud a whack in the face on the edge of the box, and the Blues have another free-kick in a dangerous position.

Simple instruction again from Ben Foster on how he wants Watford’s defensive wall configured: ‘Four big f****rs!’ It worked. Willian’s effort is blocked.

36: Watford corner. Chelsea haven’t enjoyed defending these much lately but Olivier Giroud is back there to clear the danger. I’m still a big fan of the Frenchman and think he’s well worth another year or two. So selfless in his game.

33: Well… there’s been no immediate response from the visitors. In fact, Chelsea are the ones applying the pressure. Not managed to create anything noteworthy though.

30: Watford without a win or indeed a goal in their last three away matches. Could be a really uphill task from here.

CHELSEA 1-0 WATFORD | GIROUD

28: GOAL! Olivier Giroud scores goals. It’s just a fact. And he’s doing it again in really clever style.

The ball is worked inside to Ross Barkley, who prods it through to the Frenchman. Craig Dawson goes flying in with a sliding challenge and Giroud waits for the centre-back to slide on by before sweeping into the opposite corner.

27: Etienne Capoue is now on the receiving end of a foul. Mason Mount the culprit. Watford will be having a crack from this position… wowzers. So incredibly terrible from former Chelsea man Nathaniel Chalobah. Miles over. Nigel Pearson clenches his fists in frustration. Drinks break.

25: Etienne Capoue collects his obligatory booking. He’s clumsily stepped on the toes of Olivier Giroud and that’s given Chelsea another free-kick in a promising position.

Willian lines it up… Blocked! Straight into the wall.

21: Careful, Kurt… Zouma ploughs through Troy Deeney and has well and truly left his mark on the Watford Captain. Be interesting to see if there’s any response to that later.

Anyway, Ben Foster has just made a tremendous save to stop Chelsea from taking the lead. Christian Pulisic, once again, makes himself a yard and lays it off for Olivier Giroud but Foster saves with his legs.

18: Chelsea break at pace but Willian’s dangerous looking strike is deflected into Ben Foster’s hands by Craig Dawson. Just a few signs that the game is opening up a touch. Watford have grown in confidence.

15: Will Hughes does well to get his body across Reece James, who brings him down. Now a free-kick like this could represent Watford’s best chance of a breakthrough. Craig Dawson and co. trundle up…

Nothing. Dawson stays up after the delivery was cleared but drags it wide.

13: Reece James goes for a… well was it a cross or a shot? Either way, Ben Foster collects with a minimum of fuss.

10: A fairly incident-free opening ten minutes but Chelsea have enjoyed a healthy 75% possession. Christian Pulisic looks to slide in Olivier Giroud but the Frenchman is pushed out too wide to take on the shot.

8: Christian Pulisic really is class. The US international slides past two challenges and turns on the burners to tee up Mason Mount, whose effort is deflected behind for a corner. Nothing from that one. Oh it’s the 4th July… well the pressure really is on Pulisic then…

5: Watford will be primarily playing inside their own half this evening. I don’t blame them either. They used the counter to great effect against Liverpool earlier in the year and West Ham had joy against tonight’s opponents with it a few days ago.

Ross Barkley is fouled by Etienne Capoue just outside the penalty area. No Marcos Alonso to take this… but I suspect Willian will provide a suitable deputy… NO! It was Olivier Giroud to thunder it straight into the wall.

3: It will be interesting to se how this one plays out. Both sides need to bounce back from defeats. Watford went down really tamely at Southampton while West Ham’s London derby win was a painful one.

Any thoughts on the new Chelsea kit? I’m still on the fence about it. 6/10.

CHELSEA 0-0 WATFORD

1: Aaaaand we’re underway. Leicester AND Manchester United both collected maximum points earlier today – so three points is vital for Frank Lampard’s side in their quest for Champions League football.

Slightly better news for Watford, who saw Norwich and Bournemouth beaten – but Nigel Pearson knows getting something tonight would be massive for his side.
