The tweet comes as chaos has erupted across the United States over the last few days following the death of George Floyd. Mr Trump said: “The United States of America will be designating ANTIFA as a Terrorist Organization. “The Lamestream Media is doing everything within their power to foment hatred and anarchy.

“As long as everybody understands what they are doing, that they are fake news and truly bad people with a sick agenda, we can easily work through them to greatness!”

At least 30 large demonstrations have taken places across cities in the US while the National Guard were also deployed to Minnesota.

Mr Trump also criticised the mayor of Minneapolis, who is a Democrat, for failing to control the protests.

He also declared the protestors as “looters and anarchists” while accusing them of dishonouring the memory of Mr Floyd.

In an earlier tweet today, Mr Trump praised the efforts of the National Guard in stopping the riots.

He said: ” Congratulations to our National Guard for the great job they did immediately upon arriving in Minneapolis, Minnesota, last night.

“The ANTIFA led anarchists, among others, were shut down quickly.

“Should have been done by Mayor on first night and there would have been no trouble!

A curfew has been placed in the state following the riots.

The state’s Governor, Tim Walz confirmed it will remain until 6am on Monday.

He added: “We are not done yet.”

A curfew has also been enforced in Indianapolis tonight.

Mayor of the city, Joe Hogsett said the curfew will be from 8pm tonight until 6am on Monday.

He said: “It is clear after last night that we can no longer provide the protection of those protesters or our downtown residents and business owners when an unfortunate few are so determined to hijack this movement for their own selfish reasons.”

The Chicago mayor, Lori Lightfoot says access to the downtown area of the city will be restricted.

It will now be restricted to residents and essential workers while the National Guard will have a presence in the city.

There were also protests in the UK with thousands descending on central London on Sunday.

Despite the UK still being in lockdown, large numbers of people appeared to violate the measures as they protested outside the US embassy.

Protests were also held in Trafalgar Square as they chanted “Justice for George Floyd”.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed they were communicating with the protestors.

The crowd appeared to move on by the afternoon.
