Police have responded to the reports and up to 10 ambulances have been requested to the scene. According to reports at the time of writing, the active shooter has not been found yet.
Emergency services were called to a reported shooting in the shopping centre just before 3pm local time.
Wauwatosa Police Department have said the shooter is “a white male in his 20s or 30s” based on witness statements.
When emergency personnel arrived on the scene, the perpetrator was no longer there.
The department also confirmed seven adults and one teenager were injured in the shooting.

The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time and they have all been taken to hospital.
Barry M. Weber, Chief of Police, said: “The crime scene is active, and we ask members of the public to remain away from the area and be patient so that our law enforcement personnel may secure the scene and investigate.”
More recently, Wauwatosa Police have now said the Mayfair Mall “has been cleared and is secure” following the attack.

It is due to be closed tomorrow while investigations continue and law enforcement are expected to remain present through the night.
Their investigations so far lead them to believe the attack “was not a random act and was the result of an altercation”.
They added: “Events like this shake a community, and we remain committed to protecting those who live and visit Wauwatosa.”

Dennis McBride, Mayor of Wauwatosa, told ABC News none of the victims’ injuries appeared life-threatening, at the time of writing. He added that the perpetrator is “at large”.
As well as around 75 officers and dozens of police vehicles, it is understood the Milwaukee branch of the FBI is responding.
Wauwatosa police have urged the public to “use alternative routes” to get through the area and said the mall is closed.
Large police presence at the shopping mall
Brookfield Properties, the property management firm behind the mall, said it was “disheartened and angered” about the “violent incident”.
Footage shared on social media showed three of the victims being treated in ambulances.

He tweeted: “MCMEO is NOT responding to Mayfair Mall.
“We are responding to the homicide of an adult male in the 4800 blk of W. Hampton. @MilwaukeePolice investigating.”
Reports said the medical examiner “only responds when there is a death investigation”.
Someone trapped inside the building tweeted they are safe but have no idea when they will be able to leave.
They tweeted: “My sister and I are stuck inside mayfair mall. We’re okay, but who knows when we’ll be able to leave.”
Brookfield spokeswoman Lindsay Kahn said she couldn’t provide any details yet.
“It’s a developing situation and we are not going to make a statement until we know more,” she said.
