Lionel Messi has reportedly pre-recorded a video message which will be released within hours confirming that he will remain at Barcelona for the upcoming season, despite initially telling the club he wishes to leave.
Messi filed his transfer request to the club’s board via fax under the belief that his contract allowed him to leave for free this summer.
However, Barca rejected the letter and insisted the attacker could only walk away from the Nou Camp if his £640million release clause is met.
Manchester City were keeping a close eye on the Argentine’s situation as they considered reuniting him with Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.
Messi’s father and agent, Jorge, has been in Catalonia holding showdown talks with Barca since Wednesday.
A decision has been made that the six-time Ballon d’Or winner will remain with his current club until at least next summer.
Spanish news outlet Sphera Sports claims Messi has already recorded a video message which will be released this afternoon.
Messi has grown frustrated with the steady decline of Barcelona as they have only won one Champions League title in the last nine years.
Manager Quique Setien was sacked last month after guiding the club through their first trophyless season since 2008.
A number of Barca’s older players, including Luis Suarez, have been told they must leave this summer as part of a major shake-up.
“We only hope that he stays. I am trying to stay focused on the national team and prepare well for the next two games.
“We have heard a little of everything but we don’t know anything else about all this affair.”
